“Aim for the 100-goal mark”: Striker shakes up the amateur game

He has an almost uncanny goal tally: Batuhan Evren is shaking up the amateur section in Hamburg. Now he is even aiming for the 100-goal mark.
On Saturday it will once again be particularly important for Batuhan Evren. Then the striker will play with his 1. FC Hellbrook in the top game of the Hamburg district class against SV Alter Teichweg. Hellbrook is currently second in the table, two points ahead of its upcoming opponent and can easily distance itself from its closest rival with a win.
And Evren is Hellbrook’s main man. It is thanks to his 55 goals in 16 games that the amateur club is involved in the promotion race – and with a total of 111 goals and a difference of 77, they have by far the best goal difference in the league. Evren himself not only leads the league’s internal top scorer list, but is also clearly ahead in the nationwide “top scorer cannon for everyone” in the 9th league.
“This season I’m really blossoming and have found fun in football again,” says the attacker in an interview with Fussball.de. And that is by no means a given, he explains. He had recently struggled with “extreme” bad luck with injuries. “During this time I gained a lot of weight, was almost 100 kilograms and no longer fit,” he says. He is now at 88 kilos and wants to lose at least eight more kilos.
But the 23-year-old is already an enormous added value for his club in the district league. In his youth, Evren had, among other things, FC St Pauli and played at VfL Wolfsburg. For the 2021/22 season he made the jump from the youth ranks to the regional league squad of FC Eintracht Norderstedt. But a whopping eight torn muscle fibers in his first season in the men’s division put a stop to his plans, he explains. He went via Bramfelder SV to the national league team Hamburger SV – and finally to Hellbrook.
At Hellbrook they are really happy to have him – especially since Evren’s older brother Doguhan is his trainer there. “He really lights me up and drives me on,” said Evren about his relationship with his coach and brother. It wasn’t just in his role as team captain that he exchanged a lot with Doguhan.
Apparently with success: Only one point currently separates Hellbrook from the top of the table. Although leaders FC Gregs have two fewer games under their belt, the statistics are still impressive. Especially those of Evren himself. “Before the season I thought I could score 60 goals,” he says. “I have to revise this goal upwards; I’m now aiming for the 100-goal mark.”
If he were to secure the top scorer in Germany in the 9th league, he would have a place of honor, said Evren. But the success with Hellbrook is more important. It should be the championship and promotion to the district league. And if he then loses a few more kilos, “I might be able to tackle the regional or major league again,” he says.
