Battered Volendam coach Jonk finds a bizarre draw justified: “No stolen point”

Sitting in the dug-out, Wim Jonk saw his team hold out against FC Utrecht (0-0) on Sunday afternoon. Afterwards, the trainer announced that the result was the correct reflection, despite three rejected Utrecht goals. “It wasn’t a stolen item.”

Without crutches, but anything but smoothly, Jonk moved along the field in Stadium Galgenwaard. Just over a week ago, the knee of the Volendam coach went under the knife. “I had to be a bit careful today. I had to stay seated while cheering,” says Jonk. He therefore left the active coaching during the game to his assistant Matthias Kohler. “He is busy with his professional football coach course and this was also a good moment for him.”

Emotions

Midfielder Carel Eiting noticed that his emotions on the field went in all directions. One time disappointment with a goal against and a little later the joy after canceling that goal. “You just have no idea what’s going to happen when the VAR intervenes.”

Forty points

Because of the point achieved, FC Volendam remains thirteenth in the ranking. However, the team is only three points above sixteenth place, which is related to play-offs for promotion / relegation. With seven games to go, it will be very exciting. Jonk still believes in the target of forty points. At the moment, his team has collected 27.
