Turkey has reached the semi-finals of the SEM basketball for the first time in 24 years. The team around NBA-Jungstar Alperen Sengün from the Houston Rockets defeated on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) in Riga Poland in the round of the last eight with 91:77 (46:32).
In 2001, the Turks made it to the final at their European European Championship, but lost to Yugoslavia there.
Sengün triple double
Sengün shone in front of 3463 spectators with a triple double from 19 points, twelve rebounds and ten assists, for Poland Jordan Loyd and Mateusz Ponitka each came to 19 points. Turkey will deal with Lithuania or Greece on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Poles missed moving into an EM semi-final for the second time in a row. In 2022 they ultimately lost the game for bronze against the Germans in Berlin. The Turks are therefore a possible final opponent of the German national team.
Germany on Wednesday against Slovenia
The world champion meets Slovenia and NBA superstar Luka Doncic in his quarter-finals on Wednesday. Previously, Finland and Georgia play Germany’s possible opponents in the semi -finals.
