Virtus wins the postponement which closes the program of the sixteenth day of Serie A. It ends 81-63 at the Segafredo Arena. Great team effort from Ivanovic’s men, who reach 12 victories in the championship and join the group at the top of the table (made up of Trapani, Brescia and Trento). Shengelia’s performance was positive (15 points and 8 rebounds). After recent physical problems the Georgian is finding his best form. Despite 16 points from Owens, Vanoli is unable to avoid defeat (the thirteenth) and remains penultimate in the standings.

belinelli and circulation

Virtus showed the same energy in the first minutes of the match, highlighted on Friday evening at the SAP Garden in Munich. Belinelli, Cordinier and Polonara immediately put Bologna at 10-2. Ivanovic’s men move the ball well and force the opposing defense to continuously rotate. Brotto’s team also makes an impact in transition, taking advantage of the accelerations of Willis and Jones. Morgan joins the game at the end of the first quarter, trying to dig a first important breakthrough (23-13 at 10′). The plot of the first half appears already written, and destined to tell the story of Segafredo on the run. However, after the Juventus’ maximum advantage (+14 after a basket by Diouf), Vanoli reacts and, with the quartet formed by Willis, Jones, Davis and Owens, reacts and returns to the match with a 10-0 break. Captain Belinelli (the best of his team, 11 points in the 20th minute), Grazulis and Pajola then take care of restoring the margin to the V-Blacks. 41-32, at the long break, in favor of the home team.

decisive defense

Upon returning from the locker rooms, Virtus continues to manage the advantage, with the usual movement of men and ball. Vanoli takes advantage of a couple of bursts from Owens and stays in the game, even coming back within two possessions of a deficit. Near the third siren, Lacey scores a triple to make it -6 (61-55 at 30′). The last 10 minutes of the match were purely about management for the home team, who increased their defensive intensity and exploited their internal play in attack. It ends 81-63 for Segafredo.
