Den Helder again won the national title on Wednesday evening. The women defeated Grasshoppers with big numbers: 77-60. This made it 3-1 in the best-of-five series, which allowed the champagne to be uncorked. It is the second championship in a row for the basketball players from the Noordkop.
After two victories over the competitor from Katwijk: 96-83 and 57-56 Mario Bennes’ team lost on Saturday the third game for the national title† So it was important to win Wednesday-evening’s game so as not to make it exciting.
After the first two quarters it was 30-20 for Den Helder, then things got tense in the fourth quarter. The home team brutally came back to 32-28. The visitors were not deterred and then took another large margin: 46-35. The victory and thus the championship was no longer in danger: 77-60. It is for the sixteenth time in history that Den Helder is crowned national champion.
