Basketball: NBA star Antetokounmpo threatens World Cup

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks has to worry about his participation in the World Cup with Greece.

According to a report by “ESPN” on Wednesday, the two-time MVP of the North American basketball professional league had an operation on his left knee in New York two weeks ago, the Greek newspaper “Gazzetta” first reported. The World Cup finals with the venues Japan, Philippines and Indonesia will start on August 25th.

The 28-year-old struggled with several serious injuries during the past season, missing five consecutive NBA games in January due to persistent knee problems. In total, he played 63 games. However, the Bucks ended early, the best main round team in the league was eliminated in the first playoff round against the Miami Heat.

Internationally, Antetokounmpo led his native Greece to the quarter-finals at last year’s EuroBasket, but lost out there to hosts Germany.
