Both teams don’t really meet the field yet. The Swedes’ trials have so far been too short and the German women have not yet been able to add to the early points.

The German ladies brought their best EM result with third place in 1997. Last year it was enough for a historically strong seventh place at the Olympic Games. In Paris, however, all top players were still there. The Swedes have never qualified for World Championships or Olympic Games. In 2019, however, it was enough for fifth place in the European Championship.

  • 19:41

Sweden made an impressively strong European Championship qualification and won all six games against the group opponents Great Britain, Denmark and Estonia. In the test games, the Scandinavians then went rather mediocre. Similar to the German women, the Swedes have clearly against Belgium (51:70 lost). In the last two tests against Lithuania (45th place in the world rankings) there was a narrow defeat (62:64) and a narrow victory (73:67). Consequently, it is difficult to predict how strong the Swedes really are.

  • 19:28

The DBB women showed more mixed services in the last test games. After a 70: 86 defeat against the Czech Republic there was at least an 81: 65 victory against Turkey, but the EM general rehearsal against Belgium (45:80) really went wrong. In the world rankings, Germans are currently ranked 13th and thus twelve places in front of Sweden. In view of the failures, one cannot speak of a clear favorite role.

The German team may also play its group games in front of a domestic audience in Hamburg a year before the home World Cup. The signs are not quite as good this year. The Germans have to do without the Sabally sisters. Nyara Sabally wants to cure her knee injury while Satou Sabally focuses on the WNBA. It is also particularly bitter that a cruciate ligament rupture suffered shortly before the European Championship captain Marie Gülich. Accordingly, it will be all the more important to present yourself as a closed unit.
