Aliyah Comithier

As of: March 28, 2026 • 12:05 a.m

The Baskets Bonn narrowly lost a thrilling basketball thriller against the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg. The tragic figure was Alijah Comithier, who missed the possible equalizer from the free throw line with 0.7 seconds left.

In the thrilling game, the teams were on equal terms and the game was exciting until the last seconds. With a two-point deficit, the Bonn team had their last attack with 17 seconds left, which ended in a foul by Ludwigsburg. Bonn’s Comithier missed both free throws, so the score remained 79:81 (38:40) from a basket perspective.

Jalen Finch is Bonn’s best thrower

“That’s how it is sometimes,” development player Grayson Murphy after the game at Magenta. “It was decided in the last few minutes. We’ve also had close victories, but today our balls didn’t fall into the basket.” The best thrower on the Bonn side was Jalen Finch with 19 points.

Despite the second defeat in a row, the Baskets remain on course for the playoffs as fourth in the BBL table, but could still slip into the pre-playoff places from seventh place. The Ludwigsburg team also still have playoff hopes in eighth place.

Competitive game from the start

It was a close, competitive game from the start. Grayson Murphy and Comithier sank the first three-pointers, the Bonn defense was alert and focused, so that the Baskets ended the first quarter with a narrow 19:17 lead.

But because Bonn couldn’t maintain their scoring rate and weakened defensively, the game tipped over at the beginning of the second quarter. Kur Jongkuch used a hard effort to prevent a dunk from Ludwigsburg’s Lenny Anigbata and had to sit on the bench early with the third foul.

It was Anigbata who gave the guests their highest lead to date with his three-pointer: 32:24, the giants were eight points ahead. In the second quarter, however, the Bonn team fought back, with Finch and Jeff Garrett in particular ensuring that the halftime deficit remained within reasonable limits at 38:40.

Technical foul, then lots of turnovers

The second half was also extremely close, the Bonn team had a bit of luck when Babacar Sane scored a successful lay-up after a rebound, but then complained about a lack of a foul whistle and received a technical foul – Joel Aminu shortened the score to 45:47 in the middle of the third quarter.

Several turnovers on both sides made the game hectic. The Bonn team fought back better, and through Finch they even took the lead 53:51 shortly before the end of the quarter. The final third was 55:53, in which Bonn was even able to pull away at times (67:62), but ended up falling behind. The weak three-point rate in particular caused problems for Bonn: coach Marko Stankovic’s team only hit five of 27 shots from a distance.

Extremely frustrated after the game: Alijah Comithier

In the last attack, the Baskets had another chance to equalize: First Murphy missed a three-point attempt – and then key player Comithier lost his nerve from the line.
