Basketball Bundesliga: Baskets Oldenburg dupe Bayern

As of: October 2nd, 2023 10:23 p.m

The Baskets Oldenburg have duped favorite Bayern Munich in the Basketball Bundesliga. Alba Berlin had previously clearly won its first home game.

The Oldenburgers beat Munich 77:67 (21:26,24:13,13:15,19:13) on Monday evening (October 2, 2023). Thanks to their success, the EWE Baskets jumped to sixth place in the table, while the Munich team remained far behind their own expectations in eleventh place. The best Oldenburg thrower was Charles Manning Junior with 20 points, while world champion Isaac Bonga scored 16 points for Bayern.

Bayern without Ibaka

Bayern were without former NBA star Serge Ibaka in Oldenburg due to two more games this week. Nevertheless, the top favorite for the title got off to a good start and won the first quarter 26:21. But then Oldenburg improved and turned the game around. At the break, Lower Saxony was surprisingly ahead by six points.

After the break, the hosts even pulled ahead to 13 points, but led by world champion Andreas Obst, Bayern came back to within one point. But Oldenburg kept calm and pulled away again in the final quarter. Also because the threes no longer wanted to fall when it came to fruit.

Alba with a big win

Alba, on the other hand, celebrated a successful dress rehearsal for the meeting with Bayern next Thursday (October 5th, 2023) in the Euroleague. Coach Israel Gonzalez’s team won 110:75 (59:40) against Hakro Merlins Crailsheim and is currently top of the table with two wins.

The best scorers for the “Albatrosses” were world champion Johannes Thiemann and ex-N.B.A-Pro Matt Thomas with 16 points each. On the Crailsheim side, new signings James Murray Boyles collected the most points with 19 and Prince Oduro with 13.

Honor for world champion Thiemann

For Johannes Thiemann it was the first appearance in front of a home crowd since winning the World Cup title in Manila. Before the game, the newly crowned Alba captain was enthusiastically received and honored by the fans and the club board for his performance in the Philippines.

The Niners Chemnitz also beat the Baskets Bamberg 109:79 (23:24,31:18,33:22,22:15).
