Basket, Virtus Bologna unleashed: after Hackett also Shengelia?

Close agreement with the star of CSKA Moscow: the negotiation is based on the duration of the contract. Valencia also lurking

Virtus Bologna is close to an agreement with another star from CSKA Moscow: Tornike Shengelia. After taking over Daniel Hackett, Massimo Zanetti’s company is one step away from an agreement with the 30-year-old Georgian winger who left Moscow after the invasion of Ukraine. “I find it impossible for me to continue playing in the Russian army club,” said Shengelia as he left the Red Army club with which he signed a three-year contract in 2020. “Toko” is one of the strongest players in the Euroleague, a 206 cm winger that would strengthen Virtus in a sector, that of the longs, for which the company was looking to the market. Like Hackett, Shengelia can no longer continue the season in a Euroleague team. So the Eurocup teams, Virtus and Valencia in the first place, moved on. The deadline to conclude is Tuesday 8 March and from a bureaucratic point of view it is a race against time.

The contract

The negotiation is based on the duration of the contract. For next season Shengelia wants to return to play in the Euroleague or in the NBA. So the agreement with Virtus could be up to the end of the season, with the possibility of extending it in case of qualification for the Euroleague. Also interested in Valencia, the Spanish club with which Shengelia grew from youth to first team and won the Eurocup 2010. After Valencia, the Georgian played in Belgium in Charleroi and Pepinster, he was chosen by Philadelphia with the number 54 in the 2012, in the Nba he was in Brooklyn and Chicago, then Baskonia, and Cska.
