A first look at the preseason schedule of the German Baseball League (DBL) shows that there are numerous interesting duels on the program weeks before the start of the season. In addition to initial assessments of the position within the league, fans can also look forward to several international comparisons.
Before the starting signal for the new season of the German Baseball League (DBL) is given from April 10th to 12th, preparations are already getting down to business. From mid-March, the DBL teams will use the weeks leading up to the start of the season for numerous test games – and the clubs will not only have to deal with well-known league competitors, but also with international guests.
At the start of the preseason, a real classic is on the agenda in the north: The Untouchables Paderborn welcome the Bonn Capitals for a rivalry duel – a first indicator for both teams. Things will get serious for newly promoted Dortmund on March 21st and 22nd when the team completes their first endurance test in the DBL against the Hamburg Stealers.
The preparation calendar also offers some interesting pairings – including several interleague duels between north and south teams. On April 2nd, Mainz Athletics and Hünstetten STORM will meet in a neighborhood duel. Despite the short distance, both clubs now play in different groups after Hünstetten moved north for the 2025 season. The Stuttgart Reds have a real away trip ahead of them: They travel to East Westphalia on April 4th to compete with the Untouchables.
International duels in focus
This spring, particular attention is being paid to international encounters with European guests in Germany. It starts on March 21st and 22nd with the Guggenberg Legionnaires Regensburg, who will host Kinheim Haarlem from the Dutch Honkbal Hoofdklasse. At the same time on March 22nd, the Stuttgart Reds will meet the Hard Bulls from the Austrian Baseball Bundesliga at home.
On March 28th and 29th the Bonn Capitals will host Neptunus Rotterdam, also from the Honkbal Hoofdklasse. On March 28th there are two more international matches on the program: The Cologne Cardinals host the Amsterdam Boekaniers, while the Guggenberg Legionnaires Regensburg meet Sokol Hluboká from the Czech Extraliga.
The reigning German Baseball Champion and European Club Champion, the Heidenheim Heideköpfe, is traveling to Italy for a week’s training camp to prepare intensively for the coming season in the DBL and BCL Europe.
