Bas Kuipers gives Go Ahead Eagles in Volendam first points of the season | Eredivisie

Go Ahead could use the win after the team of trainer René Hake scored zero points in the first five games. The duel against Volendam (only four points) was therefore already one for self-preservation.

FC Volendam had a mediocre last week with no fewer than eleven goals against. Trainer Wim Jonk had therefore sacrificed Henk Veerman, who was recently brought in with a lot of fanfare. In the back, the defense was propped up by newcomer Xavier Mbuyamba. The defender was unable to prevent enthusiastic club hopper Bobby Adekanye opening the score halfway through the first half.

Former Ajax player Carel Eiting equalized eight minutes later, but the second half was for Go Ahead. That only happened after folk singer Stef Ekkel had sung his hit song Liever Te Dik In De Kist Dan een Feestje Missist on the center spot, while all the players were already on the field. He received the red card from the playful referee Richard Martens.

The final chord was for Robert Mühren, who scored his first goal of the season. That was no longer of any use for Volendam, which is sixteenth with four points. After the first victory, Go Ahead Eagles is now three points above Fortuna Sittard, which will visit NEC on Saturday (4:30 pm). The Limburgers presented their new coach tonight with Spaniard Julio Velázquez (40), but he will not start at Fortuna until Monday.
