NEC Nijmegen’s forward Bas Dost, who had a heart attack during the match against AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch League, announced that he will take a break from football for a while.
In his statement on the club’s website, the 34-year-old football player noted that inflammation of the heart muscle was detected and that tests will continue to get more insight into his illness.
The Dutch striker said, “I am grateful to the NEC and AZ Alkmaar doctors for their performance on the field. For now, I will take a break from football and spend time with my family. I hope everyone respects this.” he said.
