The Bartje 200 mountain bike competition is cancelled. The organization has decided to cancel the competition after last night’s heavy thunderstorms.

The organization cannot guarantee safety on the course, especially in the forest area. It is no longer possible to map and remove fallen trees and loose branches before the start, the organization writes on its website.

The organization asks participants and the public not to come to Borger. Participants will soon receive more information about the procedure.

Bartje 200 further writes that the decision was ‘particularly difficult’, because participants often prepared for weeks or months.

‘Yet the safety of participants, volunteers, employees and emergency services comes first. Under these circumstances we cannot organize a responsible event,” the organization said.

The Bartje 200 is a ride of 100 or 200 kilometers. Participants mainly ride on sand and gravel, and through the forest. Or, as the organization describes it: ‘Bartje 200 is an extremely tough tour for the real toughs.’

The organization had already prepared for a very warm edition, with the efforts of many people from the Red Cross and a doctor. But due to the damage to the start and finish area, the mountain bike tour cannot take place.
