Tennis player Mona Barthel suffered a defeat on her return to the WTA tour after almost a year and a half. The 35-year-old from Bad Segeberg had to admit defeat to the Czech Linda Fruhvirtova 6:7 (4:7), 4:6 at the start of the tournament in Ostrau, Czech Republic, after a great fight.

Tamara Korpatsch, on the other hand, survived the first round. The Hamburger beat Anna Siskova (Czech Republic) 6:4, 6:4, and in the round of 16 she will now face second-seeded Colombian Emiliana Arango.

Barthel had prevailed in the qualification and had moved into the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time since the end of July 2024. Since then she had mostly played in second-class events and tried unsuccessfully to qualify for Grand Slam tournaments.
