Miguel Ángel Pichetto visited this week Cristina Fernández de Kirchner at her home at San José 1111where the former president is serving house arrest. The meeting, confirmed by both environments, had as its axis the need to advance towards the unity of Peronism in a context of fragmentation and internal rearrangements.
The meeting becomes relevant not only for the political present, but also for the shared past. In 2017, when he was head of the PJ senatorial bloc, Pichetto decided to break up the bench that made up Cristina and form his own interblockmarking an explicit break with Kirchnerism. At that time he maintained that he did not share the former president’s political strategy and publicly distanced himself from her leadership.
The bond was further strained during subsequent parliamentary debates, with crosses in the Senate and reproaches that exposed the internal fracture of Peronism. At that time, the relationship was marked by distance and mutual distrust.
In this context, the current gesture has symbolic weight. After the meeting, Pichetto made an explicit call for internal reconciliation: “Peronism has to forgive itself“, he stated, proposing that the space must leave its errors behind and rebuild a broad proposal centered on production, work and a national agenda.

As it turned out, the conversation revolved around the need to reorganize the movement in the face of the current political scenario. There was no official photo, but the mere fact of the meeting works as a political signal.
