When she drives past the spot in the village, she sees it with her own eyes. The cloths are gone. “Oh well, they were there for a few days after all. We achieved our goal.”
‘Fuck off’
During the night of June 1 to 2 a big fire the restaurant in Wijdenes in the ashes. When fighting the fire, discriminatory texts were found on the walls of the building. ‘Fuck off’ and ‘cancer turk’ it read.
The owners, who are of Turkish descent, have only been running the restaurant for a year. They reacted with outrage the texts and the firewhich the police suspect was set on fire. “This is pure racism.”
Make a voice of opposition
Mayor Diepstraten of the municipality of Drechterland stated in a comment that there is no place for discrimination, racism and hatred within the municipality.
Several residents of Wijdenes took action after the fire. They wanted make a counter-sound and to support the owners. That’s why last week was Thursday placed a banner in front of the restaurant. “Many residents were surprised that this happened here,” said initiator Sanne den Adel.
