To make matters worse, market entrepreneurs cannot stand in their usual place. Because the City Center is being renovated – it has to be done a nicer shopping area – the square is partially open. “I am now on an island, banished from the market,” complains a market entrepreneur. “Not everything at once, that might have been more convenient.”
According to Rijkswaterstaat environmental manager Lammert Postma, there is no other way. “We regularly sit down with the municipality to coordinate the work. But we have to do so much work, so we – especially this year – will never be able to get in each other’s way.”
