Banksy urges shoplifters to visit Guess London branch | Abroad

A store of fashion brand Guess in London has increased security and closed the business after graffiti artist Banksy called on shoplifters to steal items, the BBC reports.

The American fashion brand Guess has a new collection with prints of artworks by Banksy. However, the anonymous artist accuses the brand of doing so without his permission.

“Attention shoplifters. Please go to Guess on Regent Street. They stole my artwork without asking, how could it be wrong for you to do the same with their clothes?” Banksy wrote to his 11.6 million Instagram followers.

Following the call from famed British artist Banksy, the London Regent Street retail location has guarded the door, taped the shop windows and closed the business. That it would be a marketing stunt is unlikely given Banksy’s well-known anti-establishment views.

Guess has not yet commented on the discussion, but says the collection was created in collaboration with an agency that licenses the work of graffiti artists.
