NoWe don’t know where it is or what it refers to but, as always happens, Banksy’s new work It’s immediately news, since the publication of his photo on the Instagram account of the famous – and mysterious – street artist. It’s one Madonna with childin which the Madonna is depicted in the act, which is an impossibility, of breastfeeding.

She holds the baby in her arms, according to the most classic of Christian iconographybut her breast is marred by a rusty hole, a hole that resembles a bullet hole.
The reference to Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ is quite obvious, but there are those who hypothesize a I refer to current events and the small victims of Gaza. Because they are deprived of the serenity that is their right as children, and because they are nourished with the poison of war.
An interpretation consistent with Banksy’s other works denunciation against wars and violence. But also, in general, with the image he wanted to give of himself, for example by opening a hotel in Bethlehem and financing a humanitarian ship. Little else is known about him, who has been on the scene since the 1980s. Except that he was born in Bristol, England, perhaps in 1974.
The exhibition in Naples
The Madonna and Child is the artist’s latest work after those dedicated to animals which appeared in London last summer. On display are 120 works ranging from famous graffiti to installations, from photographs to prints on various materials such as canvas, fabric, aluminium, forex and plexiglass, specially reproduced and collected for the occasion.
Alongside iconic works such as Ozone Angel, Steve Jobs, Napoleon And Waiting In Vainthe exhibition features a special video section that reveals the history and social message behind the murals scattered around the world. Metaphorical, ironic and visually impactful works that tell the story of the contemporary world, raising awareness of issues such as consumerism, war and power.
