The list of bankruptcies in Drenthe this month has quite a few caveats. Because in some of the cases, on paper, it concerns businesses in Drenthe, but in practice the companies are located elsewhere.
In any case, just like last month, it can be concluded that few companies went bankrupt in our province in February.
At the beginning of the month, bankruptcy was declared for the company Resiliun in Koekange, a company with a special story, as it becomes apparent when RTV Drenthe speaks with curator Rutger Duursma. “The company is all about research and development,” says Duursma. “To explain it simply to a layman, it’s all about inventions and medical solutions for all kinds of issues related to births and childhood diseases.”
According to the curator, there are no employees, the business revolves around the ideas and inventions of the owner. “Those inventions were recorded with patents, but the company was not very active. The ideas are there, but little else happened. You can almost call it a silent company. The applicant for the bankruptcy was the Northern Development Company (NOM). It issued a loan during corona times, but it had to be repaid and that was not possible.”
For curator Duursma it is an atypical bankruptcy. “As a curator, I am now not concerned with retaining staff, but with retaining ideas. Because the aim is to preserve all those medical ideas and not let the patents lapse. We are looking at whether we can get those ideas to a good owner who wants to continue with the plans.”
According to the curator, that is where the challenge lies. “You want these kinds of ideas to become something concrete, then you will generally be many years and many euros further.”
With the next bankruptcy we will actually end up across the Groningen provincial border, in Stadskanaal. Barbershop Gaijess was declared bankrupt by the court in Assen on February 18. The fact that this case ended up in the Drenthe court has to do with the owner of the barbershop for men, says curator Judith Scholte.
