Bang! Arne Friedrich before leaving at Hertha BSC

Sports director Arne Friedrich will leave the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC in the summer. The 42-year-old has decided not to extend his expiring contract. “I am very grateful to the entire Hertha family for the time we spent together and the trust they placed in me. The past two and a half years have been very intense and marked by changes,” said Friedrich.

“Arne Friedrich was and is in a difficult situation for Hertha BSC every day with a lot of energy, passion and drive to move the club forward. Always with clear ideas and a clear attitude,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic. Friedrich decided to “go a different route. That’s unfortunate, but we have to accept it.”

It is “no secret that the USA plays an important role for him and we are working together to see how he can be of help to us there in the future,” added Bobic.

288 competitive games played for Hertha BSC

In 2019 Friedrich returned to the Berliners as a performance manager, for whom he played 288 games between 2002 and 2010. Friedrich has held the position of sports director since 2020.

“I returned in 2019 to support the club and to do my part to stabilize Hertha BSC and lead them into calmer waters,” said Friedrich: “We have gone through many ups and downs, although the positive moments are clear to me stand out. Also thanks to the great people who give their all for the club every day.”
