In Tanuevohis sixth album, the Polish quartet Bandonegro confirms its place as an inescapable reference of the new international tango. Formed in Poznań in 2010, Michał Główka (bandoneon/accordion), Jakub Czechowicz (violin), Marek Dolecki (piano) and Marcin Antkowiak (double bass, arrangements and composition) achieved what seemed unlikely: being young Europeans who not only interpret tango with technical precision and stylistic respect, but also reinvent it from the root With a seal of its own and contemporary.

His story seems taken from a film script: four friends who, from elementary school in Poland, shared a desk and Passion for Piazzollauntil becoming virtuous scholarships and awarded for their artistic achievements in their country. From an early age they were attracted to the chords of tango and the porteña mystique, and that initial obsession became a discipline of sustained study and creation. At 18, they obtained international recognition by winning the prestigious contest PIF Castelfidardo In Italy, in the “New Tango” category. It was his springboard: since then, they toured more than 30 countries on four continents and participated in key festivals such as Tarbes in Tango (France), Schleswig Holstein (Germany), Taipei Tango Festival (Taiwan) and Oster Tango Festival (Swiss).

But his final consecration came in Buenos Aires. In 2019 they made a five -week tour where acted in iconic halls like The chip and Canningparticipated in the Argentina Tango Salon Festival and presented their unforgettable version of “Blind Gallo” during the finals of the Tango World Cup. This year they returned to record Tanuevo With Argentine musicians of excellence: Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla on drums and Lucio Balduini on guitar. The album, edited by Club del Disc, includes nine original compositions that integrate new tango, jazz and minimalism with its own and risky language.

In the words of the quartet: “Tanuevo is our manifesto: our passion, authenticity and deep connection with tango in each note. We feel that we not only touch tango, but we live it. With this album, we want to contribute to its future, explore new horizons and honor the legacy of Astor Piazzolla, while we forge our own path.” This search is clear on each track: Bandonegro is not limited to traditional appointment or ornamentationbut it uses contemporary textures and complex structures without losing the visceral drive of 2×4.

The album received overwhelming praise. Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla said: “They are musicians who know the tango root because they are very scholars. They fanatized Piazzolla and the Argentine tango. They make their own music and that is what my grandfather would have liked.” Pablo Ziegler defined him as “a refreshing experiment, a fine mixture of European jazz with a touch of the aroma of Buenos Aires.” Richard Galliano highlighted “his beautiful musical maturity and a truly original sound that captures the spirit of Astor Piazzolla,” while José Colángelo surrendered to his virtuosity: “He did not know that the Poles play so well tango. Great respect.”

Bandonegro

In addition to his record production, Bandonegro composed the soundtrack of the film TANZE TANGO MIT MIR (2021) and the series Alphense (2023) produced by Amazon Prime France, expanding its impact to other artistic languages. Its history is that of a group that not only absorbed tango, but also studied it, lived and today transforms it with rigor and sensitivity.

In TanuevoBandonegro proposes a sound journey confirming the universality of tango and its validity as living and expansive music, capable of resonating with the same force in Buenos Aires, Warsaw or Paris. It is not a mere tribute to Piazzolla: it is its extension, reinterpretation and future.
