Gareth Bale is on track with Wales in the play-offs for the World Cup. The star personally led his country to the 2-1 victory over Austria in the semi-finals. He accounted for both of Wales’ goals.

Bale, who does not get much time to play at Real Madrid, opened the score in the 25th minute. He shot the ball beautifully from a free kick into the top corner. Shortly after the break he showed his class again by cleverly taking the ball into the penalty area and then passing goalkeeper Heinz Lindner with a diagonal shot.

An own goal by Ben Davies in the 65th minute brought back tension in Cardiff.

Wales will now play the final against the winner of the Scotland-Ukraine meeting, which has been postponed for the time being due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Wales failed to qualify for a World Cup since 1958.
