Practical introduction to construction

Architecture: House by the sea

The architecture-Students dealt intensively with the topic House by the sea apart. The focus was on the analysis of the building typology and the relationship to the location. Through group work, model building and discussions, the interaction between architecture and the environment was made clear.

Civil Engineering: Planetary Boundaries

The Civil engineering-Students dealt with the Planetary boundaries and the impact of construction on the environment and resources. It became clear how important sustainable construction methods and innovative solutions are in order to respect the ecological limits of our planet.

Sustainable building technology: house without heating

In the course of study Sustainable building technology the students dealt with the concept of House without heating. Workshops and experiments explored how buildings can provide a pleasant indoor climate even without classic heating systems through clever planning, optimal insulation and innovative techniques. The program was rounded off with excursions to the municipal utilities and HafenCity Hamburg. The participants learned how sustainable building technology makes an important contribution to energy saving and climate protection.

Urban planning: spatial observation on the old town island of Lübeck

The urban planning-Students explored various places on Lübeck’s old town island. With targeted spatial observations and analyses, the conscious perception of everyday life was sharpened. The central question: What defines a place? The students learned how atmosphere, use and design shape the experience of a space.

Build and try out clay ovens

Interdisciplinary collaboration in construction is also an important learning goal: That’s why the students were given a joint project: With a lot of commitment and team spirit, the students built clay ovens. Practical work with clay as a building material not only promoted technical skills, but also an understanding of sustainable construction methods.
The highlight of the project was baking pizza together in the self-made ovens – a real communal experience.

Conclusion: Good start to your studies

The compact weeks are more than just a technical introduction: they promote collaboration, getting to know each other and the joy of doing things together. The mix of practice, excursions and playful elements creates a relaxed atmosphere in which challenges can also be mastered. This creates a feeling for your own field of study – and for being together on campus – right from the start.

Architecture student Rasmus sums up the mood like this:
People laughed, cried and cut their fingers. Studying will be tiring, but it’s also great fun!
