European champions Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Lohau are just one step away from a medal at the Badminton World Championships in Tokyo.

The duo eliminated defending champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in mixed doubles to reach the quarterfinals for the second year in a row.

“Mark and Isabel played incredibly bravely. It was one of the best games I’ve seen them play,” said DBV sports director Martin Kranitz after 21:16, 21:14.

Upcoming opponents well known

As in 2021 in Huelva, Lamsfuss/Lohau will meet Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong in the fight for a medal. A year ago, the German duo suffered a defeat and are now looking for revenge.

In doubles, however, Lamsfuss and his club colleague Marvin Seidel were eliminated in the round of 16. In the end it was 18:21, 21:23 against the former world champions Mohammad Ashan/Hendra Setiwan (Indonesia).
