A moment from the movie “Bad Roads”

A checkpoint where characters who may have been thought by Samuel Beckett meet. A bus stop where three young women are waiting for busy men at the front.

A bunker where a journalist who has come to tell the story of the war is taken prisoner. It is a road, one of the many bad roads that can be taken in the Donbass, where the accidental death of a hen produces horror movie effects.

A moment from the movie “Bad Roads”

Presented at the last Venetian Critics’ Week, the Ukrainian filmmaker’s debut feature comes from the play she wrote and staged at the Royal Court in London: four apparently independent episodes, except for the unity of time and place, the battle for Donetsk in the 2014 war, actually linked by tenuous threads stretched between the dialogues.

A terrifying reflection on the role of women in wartimepartly inspired by authentic testimonies.
