Bad news for HSV: fibula fracture at Anssi Suhonen

HSV has won its last four league games – and before chances of direct promotion after the season finale. But now he has to do without one of his top players.

HSV will have to replace midfielder Anssi Suhonen in the last league game in Rostock as well as in a possible relegation. The 21-year-old was seriously injured during Wednesday’s training session and has now been out for several weeks with a broken fibula. This was announced by his club on Thursday.

Suhonen last regular player

According to HSV, however, the Finn suffered “no complicated fracture” and was therefore “lucky in disguise”. Suhonen will already be operated on this Thursday.

The Finnish U21 international has played in the starting XI at Hamburger SV in recent weeks and was in the starting XI in the last four games, all of which HSV won.

HSV can make the relegation perfect on Sunday with a win in Rostock. If rival Werder Bremen were to lose against Jahn Regensburg at the same time, the former Bundesliga dino would even be promoted directly. It would be the return to the football league after four years of abstinence. HSV had finished fourth in each of the past three seasons.
