‘Bad loser’ Anass Najah of Telstar is guilty after tap: “Does not belong to me”

A deception during jubilee duel for Anass Najah. The midfielder played his 150th match for Telstar in Zwolle against leader PEC on Friday evening. After the 2-0 loss, Najah couldn’t control himself and out of frustration tapped opponent Thomas van den Belt in the face. “I let myself go, but it doesn’t belong to me.”

“Normally I never react out of emotion and I can’t change anything now,” says Anass Najah afterwards. Shortly after the altercation with PEC player Thomas van den Belt, Najah apologized. “We shouldn’t make it bigger than it is, because it’s ‘big man football’.”

“Bad loser”

For the incident, Najah received the yellow card from referee Richard Martens. Mike Snoei saw that too and was happy that it stayed there. Telstar’s trainer was disappointed by his player’s reaction. “Look, he is just like his trainer a sad bad loser and he sometimes expresses that wrong.”

Afterwards, victim Van den Belt of PEC Zwolle also realized that he himself did not respond well to Najah. “I teasingly said if he wanted my shirt afterwards and maybe I shouldn’t do that myself. We were provoking each other.” Mature and guilt-ridden, the two ruffs shook hands again in the catacombs.

“Good Odds”

Then the match itself. With two hits from Van den Belt, PEC Zwolle more than deservedly won against Telstar. Still, Najah thought there could have been more to it. “We created some good chances.”

Telstar is in eleventh place with five games to go. If the people of Velsen still want to have a chance at the play-offs, a lot still needs to be done. The difference with eighth position is six points. This place is still entitled to the dessert of the season. Najah: “As long as it is still possible, I still believe in it.”

Next week, Telstar will compete against VVV Venlo in-house.
