A serious injury overshadowed Holstein Kiel’s victory in the 2nd Bundesliga against SC Paderborn. During a cross after about 88 minutes, Paderborn’s Calvin Brackelmann hit the ground with his neck in an aerial duel and remained dazed.
The 26-year-old was treated by medical staff and shielded from his colleagues for around ten minutes. Silence fell across the stadium before the player was escorted out of the stadium to applause.
The incident also had a negative impact on the mood of the Kiel team, who started the second half of the season with new signings Jonas Meffert and loanee Umut Tohumcu and the lackluster 2-0 (1-0) against top club Paderborn. Steven Skrzybski (19th minute) and Lasse Rosenboom (67th) scored the goals.
After a temporary dry spell, the Kiel Bundesliga relegated team has now been unbeaten in four games and has collected eight points. Paderborn missed out on being one of the three best teams in the table again.

The SCP was actually the more active team in the early stages. But the hosts took the lead after a good combination. Phil Harres headed the ball from a cross to Skrzybski, who also headed the lead.
The East Westphalians had more of the game, but Rosenboom, who had been substituted almost five minutes earlier, benefited from a deflected shot in the penalty area and increased the lead.
The supposed goal about 15 minutes before the final whistle by Sebastian Klaas after a hair-raising defensive error did not count. Apparently because a Paderborn player had already illegally entered the penalty area during the previous goal kick.
