“Back to the Future”: Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reunite at Comic Con

Back To The Future stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were seen side by side again on Saturday October 8th. At a reunion panel at New York Comic Con, they reminisced about their iconic roles as Marty McFly and Doc Brown.

Eric Stolz was originally slated to play Marty McFly, but Fox replaced him a month after filming began. Lloyd recalled that news of the cast change came at 1am and he was due to start filming with Fox the very next day. “I felt like I had barely made it through the first six weeks and now I had to do it all over again?”

Despite the chaotic beginning, the two liked each other right away. “The chemistry was there from our first scene, it was alive, and it stayed for three films,” Lloyd said. “By the way, she hasn’t disappeared since.” Fox called it a “thriller” to work with Lloyd. Every day they worked together was a “good day,” he said. “I just had to react. Just take it in and let it flow over me. I thought he was brilliant.”

Director Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 time travel film grossed $400 million when it was released and is still a hit to this day. Zemeckis himself directed two sequels, Back to the Future II (1989) and Back to the Future III (1990). In the first film, teenager Marty McFly travels to 1955 in Doc Brown’s time machine. He accidentally prevents his parents from meeting and has to put the time planes back in order.
