IOC President Thomas Bach will pay two visits to the controversial World Cup in Qatar (November 20 to December 18).
“I will travel there for the opening game and the final,” Bach told French radio station Europe 1. Bach had already attended games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and 2018 in Russia.
Bach rejects a boycott of the tournament. “Our position is very clear: the major sporting events and the Olympic Games in particular are there to unite the world, not to divide it,” said the 68-year-old.
Hosts Qatar meet Ecuador in the opening game of the World Cup. The German national team meets Japan in their first game on November 23rd.
