AZ strikes again and has American international Mihailovic in

AZ continues to stir in the transfer market and has secured the services of Djordje Mihailovic from January. The 23-year-old American will finish the Major League Soccer season at CF Montréal and will be eligible to play for AZ from the beginning of 2023. The six-time international signs a contract in Alkmaar until mid-2027.

“It’s a very good feeling to be here,” Mihailovic says on the AZ club website. “I think the football philosophy suits me well and AZ is a club where I can develop myself as a player. I know that my final move will follow later, but I’m really looking forward to playing here. I don’t think it’s a problem to finish the season at Montreal, because that club has brought me a lot. I would like to give something back, because we have a good chance to do something special.”

Mihailovic is an attacking midfielder who went through the youth academy of Chicago Fire FC. After 73 games in the first of that club, the playmaker made the switch to CF Montréal in Canada, which also plays in the MLS. For the Canadians, the counter currently stands at 59 official games, in which he scored twelve times and provided nineteen assists. For the United States national team, Mihailovic has so far played six caps. He scored his only international goal to date on his 2019 debut against Panama.

After Jens Odgaard, Mees de Wit, Mayckel Lahdo, Riechedly Bazoer and Zinho Vanheusden (rented), Mihailovic is the sixth reinforcement for Pascal Jansen’s team.
