AZ strictly nineteen-year-old Swede Lahdo, Gladon stays with Fortuna longer | NOW

AZ captured nineteen-year-old Swede Mayckel Lahdo on Thursday. The attacker comes from Hammarby IF from his native country and signs a contract until mid-2027 in Alkmaar. Fortuna Sittard extended the expiring contract of Paul Gladon by two seasons.

Nineteen-year-old Lahdo comes from the youth of Hammarby IF. After loan spells with IK Frej Täby and Hammarby TFF, he made his debut for Hammarby IF in September last year. The Stockholm-born attacker has already played as a left winger, right winger and striker this season. At Hammarby IF he made thirteen appearances in which he scored twice.

“Mayckel is primarily a right striker,” says football affairs director Max Huiberts. “He has also played on the left, but mainly plays on the right. He has a lot of speed, a good dribble and a good individual action. We think he will develop so quickly that he can play his matches at AZ quickly. He has to step up the competition in that position and he’s not running away from that.”

Lahdo signed his contract on Friday. “AZ is a great club,” he says. “I love the Netherlands and the football that is played here. I want to play as many matches as possible this season and learn a lot.”

The Swede is the second acquisition after Mees de Wit and if it is up to Huiberts, even more players will be added. “We are certainly not ready yet. We will strengthen ourselves in a targeted manner and we are still working on that.”

Gladon stays at Fortuna for two more years

Earlier in the day Fortuna Sittard captured Gladon longer. The thirty-year-old Hoofddorper, who was in possession of an expiring contract, is now associated with the Limburg club until mid-2024. Gladon joined Fortuna on a free transfer in February of this year.

“I am happy to be here again six months later, because we are having a great time in Limburg. I was immediately received well and it feels very familiar, I also feel greatly appreciated by the fans. I will stay there too would love to be a part of it in the coming years,” said the attacker.

Gladon, who previously played in the Netherlands for FC Emmen, Sparta, FC Dordrecht, Heracles Almelo, FC Groningen and Willem II, scored three goals and two assists in eleven games. He thus played an important part in maintaining Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie.

Gladon’s contract extension may also have consequences for the arrival of Burak Yilmaz. According to VI owner Isitan Gün tried to get Yilmaz, who just like Gladon plays in the attack, to Fortuna.
