AZ player Thomas Ouwejan remains faithful to Schalke 04 and enters the Bundesliga

Thomas Ouwejan may show his skills in the Bundesliga next year. The AZ midfielder was already rented out to Schalke 04 last season and is now definitively owned by the Germans. Last week the club from Gelsenkirchen was promoted and Ouwejan can prepare for the highest level.

“I have always said that my dream is to promote to the Bundesliga with Schalke,” said Ouwejan, who has signed a two-year contract. “It is fantastic that we have achieved our goal. I feel very much at home in the club and in the city. That is why I am looking forward to start next season with the team after a short breather.”

Ouwejan played an important part in the promotion of The King’s Blue. The 25-year-old left foot played 29 games in which he scored three times and provided eight assists. Last week, Schalke secured promotion to the highest level thanks to the 3-2 victory over St. Pauli. The last game against FC Nürnberg will follow next weekend and the championship can be won.

‘Impressive’

“Thomas has shown impressively this season why we really wanted him last summer,” sporting director Rouven Schröder told Schalke 04’s website. “He is one of the best wingers in the Second Bundesliga and his standard situations are a big one. threat. We are very happy that Thomas is staying with us.”

Since 2017, the Heilooër played in the youth academy of AZ. In December 2015, he made his main squad debut in the Europa League game against Athletic Bilbao. Ultimately, Ouwejan would wear the AZ shirt 110 times. In it, he scored three goals and provided fourteen assists.
