AZ hopes for better results with Fredrik Midtsjø returning

When the Eredivisie resumes, AZ can again have Fredrik Midtsjø at its disposal. The Norwegian midfielder suffered an injury in the game against Feyenoord and has since been eliminated. According to trainer Pascal Jansen, he can play again against Vitesse.

The 28-year-old midfielder is expected to return to the starting line-up, but the question is how long Midtsjø can play. “In any case, he cannot play a whole game. It is an obvious question whether it is due to his absence that we have lost so many times before the international break, but with that you also do the other players short. we have certainly been stronger, but Ajax is just a very strong opponent and the match against Bodø/Glimt was a battle of wear and tear. We just didn’t play well against Willem II and FC Twente.”

Disappointing month

AZ won only one of the six games without Midtsjø. Only NEC was won (1-3). AZ also lost to Ajax in the cup (0-2), in the league against FC Twente (0-2) and in the Conference League against Bodo/Glimt (2-1). In addition, it played a draw against Willem II (2-2) and Bodo/Glimt (2-2). The lack of Midtsjø was therefore palpable. “With him we are stronger. In addition, we were below our level as a whole in the aforementioned matches. Not good enough to enforce anything,” said Jansen.

In the remainder of the Eredivisie, AZ still plays for third or fourth place. Starting tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. against Vitesse.
