AZ breaks Addai’s contract until 2028: “I worked really hard”

AZ really likes 18-year-old Jayden Addai. The wing attacker has signed a new contract until 2028. Yesterday, the Alkmaarders already secured another talent by tying 17-year-old Kees Smit to the club until 2026.

Addai started playing football with the amateurs of VPV Purmersteijn. In 2016 he ended up in the youth academy of AZ. This season he plays for Jong AZ. He stands out there because of his goals. He is second in the top scorer rankings of the first division with nine goals.

Last year he won the Youth League with the AZ under-19 team. He made his debut in professional football on April 8, 2022. He did this in Jong AZ’s match against FC Emmen (3-0 loss). He was also nominated this season for best talent of the first period.

Minutes in the premier league

“I worked really hard this summer to get to AZ 1. I managed to train for a few weeks and I feel like I left a good impression. Now it’s time for me to join permanently. It’s still my goal for to make official minutes in the Premier League during the winter break.”

Director of football affairs Max Huiberts sees a promising future for Addai. “He is high on the top scorers list in the first division, which is very special for a boy who is playing regularly for Jong AZ for the first time this year. It won’t be long before he joins AZ 1. He is extremely ambitious and likes to make quick steps, but he also knows that this has to be done gradually. He is working hard on that at the moment.”

NH Sport recently spoke with Jayden Addai about his stormy development and his ambitions at AZ.
