Away win in Augsburg: Joker Knauff lets Frankfurt cheer

Status: 11/05/2022 7:29 p.m

Eintracht Frankfurt fell behind early in the Bundesliga at FC Augsburg and still won. That had to do with Joker Ansgar Knauff – and with Kevin Trapp.

Knauff scored the winning goal in the 64th minute in the 2-1 (1-1) success of Frankfurt Eintracht on Saturday (November 5th, 2022). Mërgim Berisha had put Augsburg ahead after just under 30 seconds before Sebastian Rode equalized for Eintracht (13th minute).

Knauff was the celebrated man at Eintracht Frankfurt, and yet success would not have been possible without goalkeeper Kevin Traopp. Trapp, 32, made two saves from close range against Ermedin Demirović (43′, 75′), and it was his saves that secured Frankfurt victory.

Eintracht Frankfurt now has 23 points from 13 games and is fourth in the table. Augsburg has nine points fewer and is 13th in the table.

Augsburg scores, but Frankfurt hits back

FCA’s lead fell after Demirović passed a long ball through and Berisha fielded it. Berisha hit with a shot from 17 meters, Trapp was still powerless here. It should be the last time this afternoon.

However, it didn’t take long before Frankfurt equalized. Via Mario Götze and Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe, the ball landed at Rode, who completed the free-standing shot from seven meters.

Götze, Jakic, Knauff and then cheers

And then Knauff, who only came on in the second half, made his appearance. Kristijan Jakić cleverly saved a corner from Götze. Knauff didn’t hit the ball perfectly, which is probably why he flew past all Augsburg defenders into the goal. FCA goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz was blocked from view and had no way of defending himself.

Eintracht’s victory could have been even clearer, but Randal Kolo Muani went around Gikiewicz but then only hit the outside of the post (77′).
