The World Federation awarded the President’s Prize to the Ukrainian Athletics Federation. The award was presented to Ukraine’s President Yevhen Pronin by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe in Rome.
“I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this year’s award,” said Coe. “What the President of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation, the coaches and the athletes have achieved deserves everyone’s respect and appreciation.”
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, most top Ukrainian athletes were initially unable to train or compete.
But the country’s athletes showed remarkable resilience and took advantage of whatever support was given to them.
World Athletics had supported the Ukrainians and helped enable the country’s athletes to find alternative training locations in Europe and the rest of the world, including competing in the World Championships.
