Specialist at the Food Agency Elina Leinonen notes that vegetables should basically be washed before eating.

– The presence of pathogens on the surfaces of fresh vegetables cannot always be completely prevented, Leinonen justifies the washing.

– Avocados can also be washed before they are chopped, says Leinonen.

Use fresh

In the avocado shell, potentially lying pathogens can be transmitted to the cutting board, hands or knife when the fruit is peeled.

Washing reduces this risk.

For some of us, even small pathogen exposure can be dangerous.

– In terms of listeria, pregnant, elderly and disadvantaged persons are recommended to use pre -chopped vegetables in store, preferably fresh, ie well in advance of the last date of use, says Email.

According to Leinonen, people at risk, it is also good to keep home -chopped vegetables in the cold and use them within a reasonable time.
