Autodromo Monza, 20 million euros foreseen in the budget to support the F1 circuit

The amendment to the Budget has been approved by the Budget Commission: allocation of 20 million to support the circuit (5 in 2022, 15 in 2023) which will host F1 until 2025. Here are the necessary interventions in Monza

A “treasure” of 20 million euros reserved for the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, which in 2022 will celebrate the centenary of its foundation and will host the Italian F1 GP until 2025. The amendment, inserted in the Budget Commission of the Senate, has been approved in the Financial Maneuver, promoted by the Lega, in favor of the Lombard sports facility. The allocation provides for the use of 5 million euros in 2022, and a further 15 million in 2023.

MONZA F1: 20 MILLION SUPPORT

The amendment was approved in the Commission on 21 December, and the definitive “go-ahead” of the classroom is expected between 23 and 24 December 2021. The goal is to support the Lombard plant “for the hundred years of ‘Autodromo, national monument of Italian motoring ”as explained in a note by Senator Romeo, promoter of the amendment. “The resources will be used for modernization in view of the centenary and for the Formula 1 Grand Prix – added the senator – Having a state-of-the-art facility for a symbolic plant all over the world is a visiting card for Monza, for Lombardy. and for the whole country “.

THE NECESSARY INTERVENTIONS

The funds foreseen in the Financial Maneuver amount to a total of 20 million euros, divided into two tranches: 5 million in 2022, another 15 in 2023. These reserves would support, on the one hand, the modernization of the plant, and on the other. organization of the F1 GP which takes place every year in Brianza at the end of the summer (in the 2022 season it is scheduled for the weekend of 11 September). The economic balance sheet of the Italian GP 2021 (with contingent accesses to the stands, and 46 thousand total appearances in the three days) closed with a loss of about 15 million euros, as stated by Giuseppe Redaelli, president of Sias, the company who manages the plant. A “hole” for 2021 that rises to almost 19 million euros by adding up the lost receipts from other events and management costs. Significant shortages, considering that every year hosting an edition of the F1 GP costs 22 million euros.

AUTODROMO DI MONZA: WHAT YOU NEED

As regards the necessary “restyling” of the Monza racetrack, the targeted interventions concern the pedestrian underpasses (as well as some improvements on the track), to be separated from vehicular traffic, as had been reiterated by Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of Automobile Club d’Italia, on the occasion of the 2021 F1 GP: “We already have a project that involves an important improvement in safety for pedestrian paths compared to cars. An old problem that worries the authorities and requires the stop of the racetrack for a certain period because we should intervene on the runway. Aci cannot sustain an expense that is a little below 100 million euros. We need public funding “. These interventions should be carried out starting from the end of winter 2022, with milder temperatures, with the end of works to be scheduled by the summer in order to celebrate the centenary on the occasion of the Formula 1 GP in September 2022.
