Every Thursday at Cinema Art Cacodelphia, Located at Av. Pres. Roque Sáenz Peña 1150 in the capital, films by established and emerging directors will be screened that will connect with the most current face of contemporary world cinema. The sample Caligari Authors, which took place every Thursday, sought to encourage debate and the production of thought around the tapes. According to the organizers, the objective is to invite analysis and dialogue between creators, critics and the public.
For this reason, each screening held will have a talk space with some of the most prominent figures in Argentine cinema, such as David Oubiña, Rodrigo Moreno, Diego Lerer, Diego Brodersen, Roger Koza, Jazmín López, Andrés Di Tella, inter alia. In addition, the proposal contemplates that after the performance, attendees will be able to enjoy an exclusive cocktail. All the films will be repeated every Friday, at the same time, offering a second opportunity to enjoy.
“Although Caligari Autores surely aims to attract those film festival viewers, the underlying idea is to go out in search of a large number of people who for many years have been outside of that small ecosystem and do not participate in these events. Being able to cover the empty space that film festivals leave during the year interests us, but I think that creating an audience and an audience again interests us even more. Hence the importance that it is not just about projecting a film in a room, but that it is a complete experience: a presentation, a talk, a cocktail. “That the public will once again trust in a space where they can find and discover a panorama of current cinema throughout the year,” he highlighted. Matias Lukasievicz, editor-in-chief of Caligari Magazine and one of the entrepreneurs of the proposal.

The program includes an outstanding selection of films, the inaugural feature film of the cycle will be “Grand Tour” of Michael Gomes and the appointment will be on Thursday, January 23 and 30 at 8 p.m. Week by week, new titles will be revealed, building a catalog that combines diversity and a spirit of constant discovery. “The main vector line is contemporary auteur cinema, that is, films that work on style and form and explore new aesthetic and narrative possibilities. It is difficult to define auteur cinema, but it is a cinema that does not respond so much to pre-established formulas, but rather focuses on the personal view of an author who expresses himself through the staging and construction of the image. ”, explained the representative of Calligari Autores in dialogue with Noticias.

Among the films chosen are “Lazarus at night”, directed by Nicolas Pereda; “Holy Electricity”, of Tato Kotetshvili; “Family Portrait”of Lucy Kerrand “You will return”, of Jonas Truebawhich will be the second film scheduled and the screening will include a Talk with Rodrigo Moreno. Lukasievicz stated: “It is clear that Grand Tour or Volveráis are two of the most important films of 2024, and that there is a lot of interest in being able to see them in a movie theater, but at the same time Family Portrait, by Lucy Kerr, or Holy Electricity, by Tato Kotetishvili, are films that we discovered through festival coverage that we do from Caligari Magazine and are perhaps not as well known, but they are very valuable. We believe that they can be a discovery for the public and we are interested in connecting with them.”

Given this proposal developed by a publication dedicated to film criticism, he was asked whether specialists in film analysis are those who champion the defense of auteur cinema today. Mauro Lukasievicz closed: “Film criticism is very broad and, in many cases, critics limit themselves to covering commercial releases, perhaps due to the difficulty of accessing other types of cinema. This is usually only possible on special occasions, such as festivals or hopefully now at Caligari Autores. Regardless of whether they defend it or not, I think it should be defended with more emphasis so that this type of cinema circulates more among the public. Today a large part of the critics are very focused on commercial releases, leaving aside auteur films. I consider this a problem because the role of criticism is a fundamental pillar for thinking, discussing and theorizing.”
