VIENNA/TEHRAN (dpa-AFX) – Austria’s Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger spoke on the phone with her Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghtschi. “In times like these, it is important to maintain dialogue,” said the Foreign Minister on Platform X.

In the phone call, Meinl-Reisinger said she called for de-escalation and an end to attacks on neighboring countries. In addition, free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz must be restored.

This is particularly true “with regard to the humanitarian aspect of global food security with a focus on fertilizers and other essential goods,” said Meinl-Reisinger from the liberal Neos. Meinl-Reisinger didn’t write anything about her counterpart’s reactions.

Austria is not a NATO member and traditionally sees itself more in the role of a mediator./mrd/DP/zb
