According to the police report, Wimmer was driving her car into the city, then collided with an oncoming truck in a tunnel. The young soccer player’s car overturned. Resuscitation measures on site were unsuccessful and Wimmer died at the scene of the accident.
“It’s hard to put into words how much you will be missed. Our thoughts are with your family and all of your loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Alex,” their club’s statement said. Other clubs also shared in the mourning. Admira Wacker was “deeply saddened by the loss,” and Austria Salzburg also shared “sincere condolences.”
Austria Vienna, the upcoming opponent of SPG Blau-Weiß Linz/Kleinmünchen, announced on its website: “Our deepest condolences go out to Alexandra’s family, her friends and her teammates.” Austria will play with mourning ribbon in the next game.
Wimmer most recently played for the Upper Austria Academy in the Future League, a youth league in Austria.
