Out in the round of 16 instead of hoping for the title. Alexander Zverev has to return home from the Australian Open early. The Olympic champion was very frustrated after the loss.

Boris Becker puzzled at Eurosport shortly after the final whistle about the reasons for Alexander Zverev’s poor performance in the round of 16 of the Australian Open. “There was something that we all don’t yet know why he wasn’t 100 per cent fit. I don’t know,” he said. And he was right. Because an hour later, Zverev spoke up himself. At the press conference, he said with tears in his eyes: “I have nothing. I’ve just had a shitty week, to be honest.”

The Olympic champion did not want to reveal what happened. But he was hard on himself: “It was terrible of me today. There are no excuses. I came here with the aim of winning and maybe becoming number one in the world. If I play like this, I deserve it not.” You can see more statements from the Olympic champion here or in the video above.

With 3: 6, 6: 7, 3: 6 he was surprisingly eliminated against Denis Shapovalov from Canada. The dream of the first Grand Slam title will not come true again. He won’t have the chance to do so again for a few months. The French Open will start in Paris in May.
