Australian Jane is serving a prison sentence in Finland

The documentary Linna series follows the lives of female prisoners in a Finnish prison. In the evening section, an Australian Jane67, says he looks forward to his trial in the Court of Appeal.

He has previously stated in the program that he is serving a two-year, ten-month prison sentence after being caught in customs by a 1.5-pound load of methamphetamine. It has been clear to Jane from the start that she is appealing her verdict.

– The Court of Appeal will hear my appeal next week. I’ve been waiting for it for a long time. It’s been eight months since my trial, he says in the program.

Jane says she was aware of the contents of her bag when she was recently wounded by customs.

– I’m sorry because I didn’t know what was in my suitcase, he sighs.

An Australian woman says she thought there was something completely different in her suitcase than drugs.

– I was told it was chocolate. It was pretty heavy chocolate, I know. But I wouldn’t have recognized it as methamphetamine even if I had opened the package.

In the Court of Appeals, Jane also plans to explain why she didn’t check in advance herself what’s inside her suitcase.

– When asked why you opened it and looked at it, I say I couldn’t open a gift for someone else.

The past few months have been particularly heavy in prison due to the weather conditions in Finland. Jane, who is used to the warm weather in her home country of Australia, says that it is difficult for her to endure the Finnish winter.

– This is your winter. My winter is sometimes zero, but in the middle of the day it is always warmer. Snow is harder to watch than wading in it.

The castle is a documentary series about the new and Finland’s only closed women’s prison, which was opened in Hämeenlinna in late 2020. The series follows the daily lives of prisoners and staff.
