Australian Emma would rather be in the Netherlands than in Australia

“No, I don’t think I really have one Aussie am,” says Emma Westerbeek resolutely with her grandparents in the Piet Heinstraat in Hoogeveen on the three-seater sofa. “And I will definitely come back to study here.” And carefully follow it, while father Hans Westerbeek watches and listens, “probably also to live here.”

Emma Westerbeek is Australian. She was born there 15 years ago. Her Hoogeveen parents emigrated in 1994 to the other side of the globe. Long before Emma was born. Still, Emma prefers to be here.

Emma is now back at her High School in Melbourne, but for the past 3.5 months she has been at RSG Wolfsbos location De Groene Driehoek. She can keep up with the level of education in our country. “In Australia we don’t have MBO, MAVO or HAVO. Everyone is taught at the same level at a High School. And you have to wear a school uniform”, Emma sums up a number of the differences.
