Australian court allows Djokovic entry, Australian Open tennis

What consequences this has for the defending champion’s participation in the Australian Open, which starts in a week, was initially unclear. Djokovic’s lawyers had taken action against the border guards’ cancellation of his visa after the Serb arrived on Wednesday.

No guarantee for tournament participation

However, the success does not guarantee that Djokovic as defending champion can safely participate in the Australian Open from January 17th. The Australian government has already announced that it will examine another revocation of Djokovic’s visa.

Djokovic’s lawyers had based their appeal on the fact that their client had been granted an exemption from two independent medical bodies. Djokovic, who was not vaccinated according to court records, tested positive for the coronavirus on December 16 and “did absolutely everything” he thought was necessary to enter Australia.
