Alexander Zverev got his first tournament victory this year on his 28th birthday and was then celebrated by the audience with a “Happy Birthday” serenade. There was also leather pants from the organizers, into which the birthday child slipped on the court.
In the final of the BMW Open in Munich, he defeated the American Ben Shelton with sovereign 6: 2, 6: 4 at spring temperatures and sunshine. After 2017 and 2018, it is the third success at the clay court tournament for Zverev – the Hamburger pulled the Philipp Kohlschreiber record champion. After Carlos Alcaraz later missed the home win at the ATP tournament in Barcelona on Sunday, Zverev moved back to second place in the world rankings.

Zverev showed his sovereign performance of the tournament week in Munich, dominated the 15th of the world rankings from the start, but also did not have to reach its limits. The 22 -year -old Shelton also made too many mistakes under the pressure of his very concentrated opponent to seriously in trouble. After the final of the Australian Open, Zverev had played six disappointing tournaments at the beginning of the year.
