ATM Nieuw-Dordrecht returns after thud, but not in village hall: ‘Major impact’

The cash machine in Nieuw-Dordrecht returns to the local supermarket and no longer to community center De Klink. The reason for this is the explosion of last March, in which a large part of the inside and outside of the building has been ruined.

“We would like a location back in Nieuw-Dordrecht, but given the impact it has had, it is undesirable to replace a vending machine in the same place on the outer facade,” says spokesperson Margo van Wijgerden van Geldmaat. “In addition, it would also take a long time, because the building has not yet been repaired.”

Geldmaat visited Nieuw-Dordrecht at the beginning of April to talk to local residents about the thud. “People are very shocked. It is the second time that the ATM has been hacked. The other ram raid was ten years ago, but people really do not forget that,” says Van Wijgerden.

Another option was to realize the ATM inside the community center, but it has limited opening hours. “For example, it is closed on Sundays and during the summer holidays. Given the number of transactions that take place in the village, we would like to replace a vending machine. But that does not necessarily have to be on an outside facade.”

The ATM in the Coop is expected to be ready for use at the end of May. When the facade of the community center will be repaired is still unclear. “We first had to settle a few things with the insurer,” says Lucy Jalving, manager of De Klink. “We are now waiting for a construction company and a quote. So that may take a while.”

The images of the thud can be seen tonight during the program Opsporing Requested. Four men tried to blow up the ATM with explosives and took off in a dark car.

Images are also shown of someone who withdrew money in Zuidlaren on December 12 with a stolen debit card.
